Mark Sherrod Named 2011 Hermann Trophy Semifinalist

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (University of Memphis) – Mark Sherrod has been named one of the 15 semifinalists for the 2011 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy following a sensational season on the pitch. The Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious honor that is bestowed on an individual college soccer player.

On Friday, December 9th the three finalists will be announced. Those finalists will then be invited to attend a news conference hosted by the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on January 6, 2011, where the winner will be announced. A dinner and formal presentation of the award will follow the press conference.

Sherrod recorded the most prolific scoring season in the history of Memphis men’s soccer. He netted a single-season-record 19 goals, while equaling the record for points scored in a season, 42. The sophomore striker was named Conference USA Player of the Year, C-USA Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference.

Holding true to the term “student-athlete,” Sherrod was named to the 2011 CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team. He also garnered recognition from C-USA, being named to the All-Academic Team after posting a 3.59 GPA in Civil Engineering.

After scoring four goals and recording an assist in games at Central Arkansas and versus No. 10 UCF, Sherrod earned C-USA Offen­sive Player of the Week, College Soccer News National Player of the Week and Team of the Week, TopDrawerSoccer.com Men’s College Team of the Week and CS360 Primetime Performer of the Week.
