C-USA Earns Four NCAA Men's Soccer Bids

IRVING, Texas - For a third consecutive season, four Conference USA teams will play in the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship. C-USA tournament winner Tulsa, regular-season champion SMU, UAB and Kentucky have been selected to participate in the 2012 tournament. Tulsa earned the league's automatic bid by winning the C-USA Men's Soccer Championship, while SMU, UAB and Kentucky each earned at-large bids.

C-USA's four bids are tied for the third-most in the tournament field, trailing only the Big East and the ACC. All first-round games will be played Thursday, Nov. 15, while all second round matches will take place Sunday, Nov. 18.

Tulsa enters the tournament as the No. 11 national seed and receives a bye into the second round. The Golden Hurricane will face the winner of Florida Gulf Coast (11-5-2) and USF (8-5-4) Sunday, Nov. 18. The Golden Hurricane will make its eighth appearance in the NCAA Championship. TU's NCAA appearances have come in 1991, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012. Tulsa has a 7-7-1 mark in tournament play. Tulsa has advanced as far as the Elite Eight twice (2004 and 2009).

C-USA regular-season champion and tournament runner-up SMU (10-5-4) will host Winthrop (12-8-1) Thursday in Dallas. The Mustangs, an at-large selection, will make their 29th appearance in the NCAA field and third straight. SMU is 31-23-6 all-time in NCAA play, with 12 quarterfinal appearances and two College Cup trips, most recently in 2005. The winner of the SMU/Winthrop first round match will play at No. 10 Louisville Sunday.

Kentucky (10-8-2) received one of three C-USA at-large bids and will make its fifth trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history and first since 2003. The Wildcats will host Xavier in the first round. Kickoff is slated for Thursday at 7 p.m. ET at the UK Soccer Complex. The winner of the UK-Xavier game will advance to face No. 16 seed Indiana in Bloomington, Ind.

UAB (10-7-2) will make its second straight NCAA appearance and seventh tournament trip overall. The Blazers will open play at Charlotte (14-3-3) for a rematch of a regular season draw and of last year's NCAA opening round. The winner of the UAB/Charlotte match will play at No. 3 Georgetown.

The 2012 NCAA College Cup will be played for the second consecutive year at Regions Field in Hoover, Ala., Dec. 7 and 9. UAB and the Alabama Sports Foundation will again serve as hosts.
