IRVING, Texas –  No. 19 SMU was a 1-0 overtime winner against Marshall Sunday, to clinch one of the top two seeds at the Conference USA Men’s Soccer Championship, Nov. 7-11 in Birmingham, Ala. The Mustangs improved to 6-1 in league play and sit atop the table with 18 points. Seeding for the Championship will be determined during the final week of C-USA play.

No. 19 SMU defeated Marshall, 1-0, in overtime Senior Day Sunday afternoon at Westcott Field. Sophomore Tyler Engel scored the game's lone goal. With the win, SMU improves to 10-3-3 on the season and holds the top spot in Conference USA with a 6-1 mark. Marshall is now 11-4-1 this year and 3-4 in league play.

After a scoreless 90 minutes of play, Engel broke through with a goal just 1:13 into the first overtime. Junior Juan Castillo ran up the right side to the end line and fed a pass to Engel. Engel then cut a defender and fired a shot just inside the near post from eight yards out. The goal was Engel's team-leading eighth tally of the season. He also leads the Mustangs in points (22), assists (6) and game-winning goals (5).
