IRVING, Texas – UAB netted the game-winner with less than a minute remaining in regulation to top Marshall, 2-1, Saturday in Birmingham, Ala. The win propelled the Blazers into third place in the Conference USA standings with nine points. Memphis picked up its first league win with a 2-1 away win against South Carolina.

UAB redshirt freshman Karl Chester scored a goal with 40 seconds remaining in regulation to defeat Marshall, 2-1, in Conference USA action on Saturday at West Campus Field.

Chester's goal came just when it seemed the game was heading into overtime. The tally was assisted by junior Chase Wickham, who took the ball into the right side of the box and sent a low cross to Chester.  The Kathleen, Ga. native then drilled the ball into the back of the net to put the Blazers up 2-1. *Memphis 2, at South Carolina 1

Memphis (5-5-3, 1-1-2 C-USA) defeated South Carolina, 2-1,  Saturday. Mark Sherrod recorded his second game-winning goal of the season as the Tigers picked up their first win in league-play.

In the second half, Liam Collins netted the equalizer in the 60th-minute recording his first goal of the season. Collins, assisted by Adam Camillo, finished from 16-yards-out just below the crossbar to knot the game at one-all. The assist by Camillo was the freshman's second of the 2012 campaign and the first of two in the game.

Sherrod scored the game-winner and his eighth goal of the season in the 64th-minute on a one-touch from Camillo, finishing from 8-yards-out. Collins was also credited with an assist on the play; the sophomore now stands alone at second all-time in the program's history with 23 assists.
