Marshall and SMU played to a draw in Huntington, W.Va., propelling Marshall (3-0-1 C-USA) to the top of the Conference USA standings with 10 points, one point ahead of South Carolina (3-0-0 C-USA). UAB picked up its first league win, 3-2, over Kentucky and Memphis topped FIU, 3-0, for its first conference win. The South Carolina at No. 8 UCF match was canceled due to inclement weather and will be made up at a date to be determined.

C-USA MEN'S SOCCER SHOOTING STARS

  • Arthur Ivo put SMU on the board first with his third goal of the season in the seventh minute. Ivo scored directly on a free kick from 36 yards out, sending the ball over the Marshall goalkeeper in for a 1-0 SMU lead.
  • In the 46th minute, Marshall knotted the score at one when Anthony Virgara went in on a breakaway and slotted the ball past SMU keeper Jaime Ibarra and in.
  • Senior forward Babayele Sodade recorded a goal and an assist and sophomore midfielder Moses Adeniran had two assists to lead the UAB men's soccer team to a narrow 3-2 victory over Kentucky Saturday night. 
  • Freshman Wil Linder found the back of the net for Memphis in the 37th minute when Mark Sherrod passed to Linder in front of the goal and as the Panther defense misplayed the clearance, Linder beat the FIU goalkeeper one on one for the goal to put the Tigers up 2-0. Linder recorded his second career goal in the 84th minute. After the Panther defense miscleared in front of the goal, the freshman midfielder collected the ball at the top of the box and booted past the FIU goalkeeper to put the Tigers up 3-0.
