LOS SANTOS MAIMONA, Spain – Former Marshall University men’s soccer central midfielder John Daniele has inked a professional contract with UC La Estrella of Spain and will be on the roster for the duration of the 2009-10 season.
“John was one of the hardest working kids we had,” head coach Bob Gray said. “One of his dreams was to play professional soccer overseas. He has bounced around Europe independently, but his determination was why he signed this contract and is now able to do what he loves.”
UC La Estrella is a part of the Tercera Division, the fourth level of the Spanish League system. The league has 361 teams which are divided into 18 regional groups.
Daniele was a 2007 graduate of Marshall and left with a B.A. in Spanish. He was a Third Team All-Conference USA selection as a senior in ’07, and a member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 2005.
