Oct. 23 #CUSAGOLF Players of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Marshall senior Rachel Thompson, Old Dominion senior Elizabeth Haycock and FIU freshman Coralia Arias have been named Conference USA Women’s Golfers of the Week after capturing tournament titles last week. Men’s honors go to Logan Lagodich of Marshall and Paul Dunne of UAB, who both claimed medalist honors.

C-USA Men’s Co-Golfer of the Week - Logan Lagodich, Marshall, So., Canton, Ohio

Lagodich won his first tournament in head-to-head action, Tuesday. In a one-hole playoff, the Ohio native defeated Jamison Randall of ODU and Rocky Khara of VCU to win the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate after a 6-under-par 207 final score tied them all. The second-year player fired a 69 in the first round and a career-best 67 during the second round. He is the third consecutive individual winner for the Herd this season, establishing a new program record for individual wins during a season. The award is the first of Lagodich’s career.

C-USA Men’s Co-Golfer of the Week - Paul Dunne, UAB, Jr., Greystones, Ireland

Dunne recorded his first victory of his collegiate career when he took home the Georgetown Intercollegiate individual title. It marked the second consecutive tournament that a Blazer has taken home individual medalist honors. The Greystones, Ireland native recorded a 4-under 209, securing a two-stroke victory. It marked Dunne's third straight top 20 finish of the fall season. Dunne owns a 71.25 stroke average for the 2013-14 season. This is Dunne’s second Golfer of the Week honor (Nov. 2, 2011).

C-USA Women’s Co-Golfer of the Week – Rachel Thompson, Marshall, Sr., Mansfield, Ohio

Thompson won her first collegiate tournament at the Dayton Fall Invitational. The Ohio native shot a 72 in the final round to bring home the first individual victory for the Thundering Herd in more than a year. Thompson shot an opening-round 5-over 75 and improved by three strokes to finish the tournament with a 7-over 147 final tally. She had the best par 4 scoring of the tournament (4.21, +5) and the second-most birdies (5). This is the first Golfer of the Week honor for Thompson.

C-USA Women’s Co-Golfer of the Week – Elizabeth Haycock, Old Dominion, Sr., Birmingham, England

Haycock shot 73 in the final round to finish in a three-way tie for the Fighting Camel Collegiate Tournament with a 221 score to help lead ODU to a second place finish. Haycock (73-75-73=221) finished in a tie with Kaylin Yost of Campbell and Mary Alice Murphy of Mercer.  Her third career collegiate win for last year's third team All-C-USA selection. This is Haycock’s first Golfer of the Week accolade.

C-USA Women’s Co-Golfer of the Week – Coralia Arias, FIU, Fr., Quito, Ecuador

Arias claimed the individual champion’s trophy at the 36th Annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational. Held Oct. 20-22 at on the Par 72, 6,275-yard Cypress Course at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club, Arias would find herself tied for third in the standings after 18 and 36 holes, respectively. During the final round, Arias shot an impressive 3-under 69 to finish with a 6-under 210 over the 54 holes. Arias holed 13 birdies for the tournament, second-most among the 93 competitors. Her 210 score was the lowest score for an FIU player over the last 20 years, and second-lowest in the history of the program. The honor is the first of Arias’ career.
