IRVING, Texas – Memphis junior Grant Milner topped an impressive field at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate and has been named Conference USA Men’s Golfer of the Week. Milner fired a 10-under to claim medalist honors and win by two strokes against a field that included five top-40 teams and eight top-100 players. Women’s Golfer of the Week honors go to senior Alex Aläng of Memphis. Aläng posted a season-best finish at the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate.
C-USA Men’s Golfer of the Week - Grant Milner, Memphis, Jr., Knoxville, Tenn.
Milner posted a 10-under-par 206 at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Jonesborough, Tenn., to win his first collegiate title. Milner was tied for first after the first round of play and led the rest of the way to help the Tigers to a fourth-place finish as they defeated three top-40 teams.Milner beat eight top-100 players in the field, carding scores of 67-67-72 to finish in front of No. 28 Evan Beck by two strokes and topping No. 3 Jace Long of Missouri by seven shots. For the weekend, Milner finished with 17 birdies, including eight in the second round. Milner’s 54-hole score tied him for fourth in school history while his 36-hole score of 134 was second-best. This is Milner’s first Golfer of the Week honor.
C-USA Women’s Golfer of the Week - Alex Aläng, Memphis, Sr., Tullinge, Sweden
Aläng posted her best score (218) and best finish (11th) of the season at the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate. The senior carded back-to-back one-over 73s in the first two rounds of the tournament. She followed that with her best round of the season, an even-par 72 in the final round. The award is the second of Aläng’s career and first of the season.
