Memphis Holds Top Spot at C-USA Men's Golf Championship

TEXARKANA, Ark. - Memphis maintained a three-stroke lead over second-place UCF following the second round of play at the 2012 C-USA Men's Golf Championship on the par 72, 6,935-yard Texarkana Country Club. Memphis senior Jack Belote, who was tied atop the C-USA leaderboard after Sunday's first round, was one-under today. Teammate Grant Milner also carded a 71 to lead the Tigers. UCF shaved six strokes off its first-round performance, shooting 284 for the day. Sophomore Greg Eason, who placed second at the 2011 C-USA Championship, was four-under Monday to move him into a tie for first place on the 2012 leaderboard after two rounds. Eason is now tied for first with Houston freshman Roman Robledo, who also carded a 68 for the day and is six-under after two rounds. Robledo drained birdies on two of his final four holes. Another freshman, UTEP's Martin Simonsen, posted the best round of the tournament so far with a 67 to move him into a tie for third place with Belote with a 139 (-5). Memphis and UCF will tee off the final championship round at 8:50 a.m. with third-place East Carolina, who also took eight strokes off its team score Monday. UAB shot 291 for the day and is one stroke behind East Carolina for fourth place. The Blazers will be paired with fifth-place SMU and sixth-place Houston for an 8 p.m. CDT start. Rice and Southern Miss will be paired together for the final round at 8 a.m. on No. 10. Marshall, Tulsa and UTEP will be matched following with tee times starting at 8:50 a.m. CDT.
