2012 Conference USA Men's Golf All-Academic Team Announced

IRVING, Texas - Five men's golf student-athletes, including three repeat selections, have been named to the 2012 Conference USA Men's Golf All-Academic Team. To be eligible, student-athletes must hold a minimum 3.2 GPA and compete in at least 75 percent of their team's scheduled tournaments, then are voted on by the league's sports information contacts for men's golf.
This year's squad features two seniors in Marshall's Bosten Miller and Jack Belote of Memphis. Both also earned a spot on the 2011 All-Academic Team. Miller is the team's co-captain and has been the Thundering Herd's top finisher in seven of nine tournaments this season with a team-low 72.85 stroke average. The Charleston, W.Va. native has compiled three Top 10 and six Top 25 finishes this season, including medalist honors at the University of Kentucky Bluegrass Invitational. The biology major has also earned academic recognition as a four-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Belote has maintained a cumulative 3.75 grade point average, with seven-straight semesters on the Tiger 3.0 honor roll. The Memphis native is also a four-time selection to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Academic Medal lists. Belote has earned four Top 10 individual finishes this season and six Top 20 showings. His best performance of the season was a second-place finish at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate to lead the Tigers to a team victory.
Tulsa junior Chris Worrell is also a repeat selection to the all-academic squad as a business management major with a 3.84 GPA and two C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medals. A native of Enid, Okla., Worrell leads TU with a 73.19 stroke average in 27 rounds this season. He has played in 33 of 39 career tournaments with 10 Top 20 performances. Houston junior James Ross has been one of the top newcomers to the conference this season. The Edinburgh, Scotland native transferred to UH after spending two seasons at Michigan State. He leads the Cougars with a 72.7 stroke average through 27 rounds and was the team's top finisher in four of nine tournaments played. He fired a season-low 64 at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate. Ross is a liberal studies major with an emphasis in French, global business and economics.
Rounding out this year's all-academic team is UAB redshirt sophomore Thomas Sutton. An accounting major, he is a three-time selection to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Sutton carded a career-low round of 65 at the prestigious Jerry Pate Invitational. A native of Montgomery, Ala., Sutton is averaging a team-best 72.4 strokes per round average. In six tournaments played, he registered two Top 10 finishes and placed in the Top 25 four times.
These five are scheduled to compete in the 2012 C-USA Men's Golf Championship, which will be held April 22-24, at the Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark. Below is a complete list of the honorees:
