IRVING, Texas - East Carolina freshman Frida Gustafsson Spang claimed a second-place finish at the UCF Challenge, which featured seven ranked teams, and has been named Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Week. Tulsa's Matt Mabrey is the Men's Golfer of the Week after a top-five finish at the UTSA Oak Hills invitational, which showcased five top-50 teams. C-USA Men's Golfer of the Week - Matt Mabrey, Tulsa, So., Little Rock, Ark Mabrey finished in fifth place in a field of 83 golfers and five top-50 teams at Tulsa's first tournament of the spring season, the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational. Mabrey carded rounds of 74-70-69 for an even-par 213 total at the par-71 Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas. Mabrey's fifth-place finish improved upon his 54th place finish at last year's Oak Hills Invitational and ties for the second-best finish of his career and best performance of the 2012-13 season. The award is the second of Mabrey's career and first of the season. C-USA Women's Golfer of the Week - Frida Gustafsson Spang, East Carolina, Fr., Kinna, Sweden Gustafsson Spang posted her second top-two finish of the season, posting a 3-under par 213 and helping the Pirates (59-35) to a sixth place finish at the UCF Challenge. The true freshman finished second, just one stroke behind the tournament champion, after carding rounds of 70, 74 and 69. Heading into final round action she was tied for 12th and posted a solid 69 (35-34) which consisted of birdies on the seventh, 10th and 14th holes to go along with 15 pars. She finished ahead of 12 players ranked in the top 100 by Golfstat and four in the top 50. Gustafsson Spang ranked among the tournament leaders in par-4 scoring (2nd/3.93/2-under), total birdies (t5th/10) and total pars (t5th/38). Currently she owns a 72.75 18-hole stroke average, which leads the Pirates squad. The award is Gustafsson Spang's second of the season and career.
