Tulsa Golfers Finishes in 30th Place at NCAA Championship

Pacific Palisades, Calif. - Tulsa, the only unranked team in the NCAA finals, finished in 30th place at the NCAA Men's Golf Championship on Thursday. The Hurricane carded a final round 305 and finished with a 54-hole total of 613 at the par-71 Riviera Country Club.

The top-8 teams -- Alabama, UCLA, Texas, San Diego State, California, Washington, Oregon and Kent State -- advanced to match-play competition with the quarterfinals on Friday, semifinals on Saturday and the championship match on Sunday.

Second-ranked Alabama finished stroke-play competition in first place with a total score of 859, edging out second-place UCLA (861).

Hurricane junior Chris Worrell had Tulsa's best performance on Thursday and for the tournament with a round of 72 for a 221 total to place 54th overall among the 156-player field. Worrell had three birdies and four bogeys for his final round one-over par score.

Freshman Matt Mabrey carded a final round 75 and finished in 99th place with a total score of 226. Sophomore John Young Kim scored a round of 78 and placed 140th with a total score of 233, while junior Mark Mumford finished in 153rd place with a score of 239.

Freshman Colton Staggs placed 154th with a three-day total of 243.

Individually, Illinois' Thomas Pieters, ranked 70th nationally, won individual medalist honors with a 54-hole total of five-under par 208, two strokes better than second-place Julien Brun of TCU and Florida's Tyler McCumber.
