GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's golf team carded a four-over 292 Saturday on maintain its nine-stroke lead after two rounds at the Ironwood Pirate Intercollegiate being held at the par-72, 7,076-yard Iron Wood Golf and Country Club.
The Pirates are seven-over (291-292=583) for the tournament, while second place UNC Wilmington is 16-over (302-290=592). Newberry College (300-293=593) is one stroke behind UNCW in third place followed by Rhode Island (301-293=594) in fourth.
UNCW's Derek Wallace carded a six-under 68 in round two to take a one shot lead over Newberry's Ben Lown. Wallace (72-68=140) is four-under through 36 holes with Lown (73-68=141) at three-under.
ECU senior Andre Thorsen (74-68=142) leads a trio of golfers at two-under. UNCW's John Brock (72-70=142) and RIU's Taylor Fontaine (72-70=142) join Thorsen tied for third place. Daniel Bowden (73-70=143) is in sixth place at one-under followed by ECU freshman David Watkins (71-73=144) at even-par in seventh.
Markus Leandersson (71-77=148) shot five-over Saturday to fall into a tie for 12th at four-over. The ECU rookie threesome of Harold Varner (73-78=151), Adam Stephenson (78-73=151) and Conner Sock (78-73-151) are tied for 26th at seven-over.
Final round play is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m Sunday, April 5.
