The UCF men's golf team saw a very successful 2012-13 season come to a close Thursday at the NCAA Championship. The Knights were in contention to advance to the match-play portion of the tournament for much of the three days of stroke play, but fell just a bit short.
A red-hot start and a strong finish in Wednesday's second round have UCF in good position at the NCAA Men's Golf Championship, being played at the Capital City Club Crabapple Course.
Coming off his individual title at the NCAA Tempe Regional, UCF junior Greg Eason was solid in the first round of the NCAA Men's Golf Championship. Eason fired a 2-under 68 to pace the Knights and put himself in a tie for eighth place at the Capital City Club Crabapple Course Tuesday. SMU senior Mario Clemens, playing as an individual, carded a 69 and is tied for 20th place after day one.
No. 39 UCF fired a 5-under 275 during the final round of the Tempe Regional to finish 13-under and in a tie for second place to qualify for the NCAA Championship. UCF junior Greg Eason won the individual title at 12-under 198 while teammate Ricardo Gouveia finished tied for second place at 8-under 202. The finals will be conducted May 28-June 2, at The Capital City Club, Crabapple Course in Atlanta.
