Three more C-USA teams accept bowl invitations
Dec. 4, 2010
Three additional Conference USA schools accepted bowl invitations on Saturday to bring the total number of teams scheduled to play in the 2010 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) postseason to six. After winning the Conference USA Championship Game, UCF accepted an invitation to the AutoZone Liberty Bowl on December 31 in Memphis. West Division Champion SMU will play in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl on December 30 and Tulsa will play in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl on December 24. This marks the fifth time in the last six years that the league has sent six teams to postseason play.
UCF will make its second AutoZone Liberty Bowl appearance in the last four years and will face an opponent from the Southeastern Conference. This will mark the 16th consecutive season that C-USA's Champion will play in the Liberty Bowl.
SMU will face Army in the Fort Worth, Texas-based Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl, played in Dallas at SMU's Ford Stadium this year. The Mustangs will be making back-to-back bowl appearances for the first time since 1984-85 and will face a Black Knights squad that is making its first postseason trip since 1996.
Tulsa has won six consecutive games as it heads to postseason play for the fifth time in six seasons. The Golden Hurricane will be making its first appearance in the Hawaii Bowl and will face the home-standing University of Hawai'i in the Christmas Eve contest.
