DALLAS (SMU) - With the 2012 season kicking off one month from today, the SMU football team is set to stampede into fall practice later this week. Players will report to campus on Friday, Aug. 3, and the first practice is set for Saturday, Aug. 4. The Mustangs will conduct 29 practices over the following four weeks in preparation for their 2012 season opener - a Fox Sports-televised game at Baylor on Sunday, Sept. 2.

On the heels of its third straight bowl appearance, expectations are high for SMU in 2012. SMU's Ja'Gared Davis, Margus Hunt, Darius Johnson, Zach Line and Taylor Reed were named preseason All-Conference USA by CBSSports.com, and SMU's five selections were the most among all C-USA teams. Honors have piled up for the Mustangs this spring. Line is on the Watch Lists for the Walter Camp, Maxwell & Doak Walker Awards; Johnson is on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List and Reed is on the Lombardi list. Additionally, Hunt is on the Lombardi and Hendricks lists, Davis is on the Butkus Award list and Blake McJunkin is on the Rimington's.

SMU will host Texas A&M, TCU, Memphis, C-USA West rivals Houston and Tulsa and 2011 C-USA Champion Southern Miss at Ford Stadium in 2012. Tickets have been selling at a record clip, as season ticket sales are higher than they have been in 25 years. To purchase season tickets, please call 214-768-4263 (SMU-GAME).

Practices are closed to the public.
