Memphis, Southern Miss and UCF each posted wins Friday as C-USA teams returned from the holiday break with a perfect 3-0 record Friday night. The Tigers defeated Oral Roberts, 72-57, with a 17-point performance off the bench from junior Antonio Barton. Southern Miss head coach Donnie Tyndall returned to his alma mater and handed Morehead State a 94-58 loss. UCF knocked off Howard, 62-45, in the first round of the UCF Holiday Classic.

  • UCF won the first game of the UCF Holiday Classic with a 62-45 victory against Howard. Junior F Tristan Spurlock (Woodbridge, Va.) led the Knights with 15 points and four rebounds. Isaiah Sykes (Detroit, Mich.), who registered a triple-double in his last outing, added 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists against Howard. Senior Keith Clanton (Orlando, Fla.) did not tally at least 10 points for the first time this season, but had a complete game with eight points, a game-high 11 boards, five assists, two blocks and two steals. The Knights will play Belmont for the 2012 UCF Holiday Classic championship Saturday.
  • Southern Miss jumped out to an early lead and defeated Morehead State, 94-58. The game was a homecoming for first-year Golden Eagle head coach Donnie Tyndall, who is a graduate and held the same post at MSU for the previous six seasons. Junior G Jerrold Brooks (Rochester, N.Y.) and Rashad McGill (Havana, Fla.) led Southern Miss with 18 points apiece. Junior G Neil Watson (Kansas City, Mo.) registered his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 assists. The 94 points were a season high and the most since hitting the century mark in 2010.
  • Memphis junior Antonio Barton (Baltimore, Md.) came off the bench to lead the Tigers to a 72-57 victory over Oral Roberts. Senior D.J. Stephens (Killeen, Texas) grabbed a career-best 14 rebounds and five blocks in the game. Memphis was without the services of an injured Tarik Black (Memphis, Tenn.) and junior G Geron Johnson (Dayton, Ohio) made his first start in place of Chris Crawford (Memphis, Tenn.).
