Rice took care of Arkansas-Little Rock, 65-55, in regulation, while Memphis and Tulsa both earned overtime wins as Conference USA teams improved to 7-0 on the week. Six more non-conference games are slated for Saturday.

C-USA MEN'S BASKETBALL SHOOTING STARS

Rice sophomore Arsalan Kazemi (Esfahan, Iran) scored 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead Rice over Arkansas-Little Rock, 65-55. The game marked the opener of the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic, which will conclude Dec. 21-23 in Las Vegas. Junior G Connor Frizzelle (Red Oak, Texas) chipped in with 13 points for the Owls, while sophomore Tamir Jackson (Paterson, N.J.) added 12. The Owls led by as many as 17 points in the second period, shooting 50 percent from the field.

No. 18 Memphis needed overtime, but came away with a 70-68 victory over Austin Peay. Freshman Chris Crawford (Memphis, Tenn.) hit a career-high five three-pointers, on his way to a career-best 18 points to lead all Tiger scorers. Junior Charles Carmouche (New Orleans, La.) scored or assisted on the Tigers first 20 points of the second half. Carmouche ended the night as the Tigers leading rebounder with a season-best seven boards, led in assists with seven and scored a season-high 16 points. Freshman Hippolyte Tsafack (Cameroon), whose redshirt was taken off Sunday, had three points in 10 minutes of action in his first collegiate contest.

Tulsa senior Justin Hurtt (Raytown, Mo.) scored a career-high 36 points as the Golden Hurricane defeated Weber State, 70-68. Hurtt went 10-for-10 from the free-throw line in overtime and was 13-of-15 from the stripe for the game. Junior Steven Idlet (Prairie Grove, Ark.) added 14 points and five assists.
