HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -
Marshall and No. 11 ranked Cincinnati will meet for the second consecutive season on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Civic Center in Charleston.
The Thundering Herd (6-4) have won four of its last five games, its latest being a 69-63 win over Coppin State last Saturday. This week, Marshall will venture to Charleston for the second time in three games. It will be the first time that the Herd will play a team in Charleston, one that is not in-state rival West Virginia, since playing Ohio on Nov. 28, 2006, a 60-53 win.
Cincinnati (9-0) leads the overall series with Marshall 19-12, but the Herd won last year's meeting, 73-69 in overtime at UC. This will be the first neutral site meeting in the series. The two teams first met in 1922.
Saturday's game will be the first without Marshall's leading scorer DeAndre Kane (16.0 ppg). The junior, out for an indefinite amount of time with a hand injury, currently ranks second in the nation with 8.5 assists per game in his first year as the team's point guard.
Junior college transfers Elijah Pittman (14.2 ppg) and D.D. Scarver (14.8 ppg) have both produced in their first year with the Herd. Scarver's 26 three-pointers leads the team while Pittman's 17 three's ranks second. Both players have made at least one three-pointer in every game played.
Senior big men Dennis Tinnon and Nigel Spikes have paced the Herd rebounding, both ranking in the top 50 nationally. Tinnon's 9.7 rebounds per game is 33rd and Spikes' 9.2 is tied for 43rd. Overall, Marshall leads Conference USA and ranks 18th in the NCAA with 42.4 rebounds per game.
UC ranks second in the nation with 46.8 rebounds per game. Junior guard Sean Kilpatrick leads the Bearcats with 20.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. UC's No. 11 ranking is its highest since the 2002-03 season.
The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network with Andrew Catalon and Steve Wolf calling the action. Due to the national broadcast, the game will not be streamed on HerdZone.com's All-Access platform because of Conference USA's television agreement with the network.
The contest can be heard on the radio throughout the Thundering Herd IMG Sports Network. It can be herd online with a paid subscription to Herd All-Access. Gametracker can be accessed through HerdZone.com. Follow @Herd_Zone on twitter for scoring updates in every game throughout the season.
