Memphis and Tulsa each picked up double-digit wins in Wednesday night action. The Tigers had a pair career scoring performances from Geron Johnson and Shaq Goodwin. Johnson scored 21, on 8-of-11 shooting, while Goodwin added 20 points and nine rebounds. Tulsa got a boost from a pair coming off injury as Rashad Ray and Pat Swilling Jr. led the way for TU. UAB dropped an 84-64 decision to Middle Tennessee as the Blazers closed out a five-game road swing. Marshall fell to in-state rival West Virginia in the annual Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic.

C-USA MEN'S BASKETBALL SHOOTING STARS

  • Memphis junior G Geron Johnson (Dayton, Ohio) scored a career-high 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting to lead the Tigers to an 84-58 win over Ohio. Freshman Shaq Goodwin (Decatur, Ga.) also tossed in a career-best 20 points. Junior Joe Jackson (Memphis, Tenn.) tallied five of the Tigers' 12 steals on the night.
  • Freshman G Rashad Ray (New Orleans, La.) and junior G Pat Swilling Jr. (New Orleans, La.) came off the bench to spark Tulsa in the first half and lead the Golden Hurricane to a 61-42 victory over the Missouri State. Swilling, who was coming back from a wrist injury and playing in his first game this season, and Ray, who wasn't expected to play at the start of the day due to a knee injury, each scored 11 points in the 19-point victory for the Hurricane. Freshman Shaquille Harrison (Kansas City, Kan.) scored 10 points and also led the Hurricane with seven rebounds and four assists.
  • Marshall dropped a 69-59 decision to in-state rival West Virginia in the annual Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic. Junior D.D. Scarver (Birmingham, Ala.) scored a team-high 17 points, while Elijah Pittman (Covington, Ky.) contributed 16. Classmate DeAndre Kane (Pittsburgh, Pa.) contributed 13 points and seven assists.
  • UAB closed out a five-game road swing with an 84-64 loss at Middle Tennessee. Junior G Jordan Swing (Birmingham, Ala.) paced the offense, scoring 13 points, marking the 11th consecutive game he has reach double figures dating back to last season. Preston Purifoy, Quincy Taylor and Jekore Tyler combined for 28 points off the bench for the Blazers.
