Dec. 4 Men's Basketball Notebook
Dec. 4, 2012
With some C-USA student-athletes already buckled down for final exams, there are only eight games on the midweek schedule. However, they feature in-state rivalries, showdowns with ranked opponents and the potential for milestones to be set.
Three of the four games scheduled Tuesday are against in-state foes. East Carolina tips things off as host to St. Andrews at 7:30 p.m. EST. The Pirates suffered their first loss of the season Saturday on the road at Charlotte. A victory would give head coach Jeff Lebo win No. 250 for his career.
Tulane hosts Nicholls State at 7 p.m. CST and senior Jordan Callahan needs just eight points to reach 1,000 for his career. Tulane is a perfect 6-0 at Devlin Fieldhouse. Houston is on the road to face intrastate rival TCU. The Cougars will be looking for some revenge as last season they dropped a one-point decision to the Frogs in Houston. The game will be seen regionally on Fox Sports Southwest beginning at 8 p.m. CST.
Southern Miss is also coming off its first loss of the season after jumping out to a 6-0 start for first-year Donnie Tyndall. The Golden Eagles have a tough test against No. 8 Arizona, but did have a successful trip to the state of Arizona last season by knocking off Arizona State, 64-61. Tuesday's tip-off from Tucson is 8:30 p.m. CST.
Four more games are set for Wednesday, beginning with a nationally televised game at Memphis. The Tigers, coming off a six-day break, host Ohio for the first C-USA game of the season on CBS Sports Network. Tip-off is 6 p.m. CST.
Marshall squares off with its in-state rival West Virginia at 7:30 p.m. EST in the annual Capital Classic in Charleston, W.Va. The game will be shown locally on WOWK and will be streamed on ESPN3.
UAB closes out a five-game road swing Wednesday at future C-USA opponent Middle Tennessee. Tulsa returns from a week-long break to host Missouri State. Both tips are at 7 p.m. CST.
