Southern Miss and UCF each added another victory to their perfect records so far this season, while UTEP and East Carolina also picked up big non-conference wins this afternoon. UCF improved to 5-0 with an 84-48 win over Alabama State, and Southern Miss is now 4-0 after defeating Spring Hill, 94-41. UTEP finished third in the Legends Classic, held in Atlantic City, N.J. The Miners posted a 65-56 victory over Michigan. East Carolina defeated intrastate rival UNC Greensboro, 81-53, to win its third game in a row.
Rice challenged No. 20 Texas before being edged by the Longhorns, 62-59, in Austin. The Owls never trailed by more than five points in the second half. Marshall also held a 34-33 advantage over Louisville at halftime, before falling to the host Cardinals.
The holiday weekend wraps up Sunday as Tulsa plays Cal State Northridge for fifth place in the 76 Classic in Anaheim, Calif. That game will be televised nationally on ESPNU at 3 p.m. CST. SMU hosts Central Arkansas at Moody Coliseum for a 2 p.m. CST tip.

UCF improved to 5-0 under new head coach

Marcus Jordan (Chicago, Ill.) led the Knights with 18 points. As a team, UCF shot 56.6 percent and 65.2 percent in the first half to take a 43-23 lead into intermission. Four other UCF players finished with double-digits in scoring, including sophomore F

P.J. Gaynor (Jacksonville, Fla.) scored a career-best 13 points off the bench, and freshman G
Jarvis Davis (Columbia, S.C.) added a season-high 10 points to go with five assists.
Southern Miss also kept its perfect record intact with a 94-41 victory over Spring Hill. Senior F Josimar Ayarza (Panama City, Panama) led the way with 18 points and eight rebounds. Freshman G D.J. Newbill (Philadelphia, Pa.) registered his second double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 boards. Senior F Gary Flowers (Dallas, Texas) added 14 points, five rebounds, six assists, two blocks and two steals, while junior G Maurice Bolden (Jackson, Miss.) came off the bench for 12 points.
UTEP senior G Randy Culpepper (Memphis, Tenn.) scored 24 points to lead the Miners to a 65-56 win over Michigan to place third in Legends Classic. A former Conference USA Sixth Man of the Year, Culpepper made his first appearance in reserve since March 30, 2009 at Oregon State - ending a string of 40-straight starts. He was 10-for-16 from the field while adding three rebounds and three steals. Freshman C John Bohannon (Lancaster, Texas) scored a career-high 10 points and added seven rebounds for UTEP. Senior G Julyan Stone (Goleta, Calif.) chipped in with 10 points. The Miners outrebounded the Wolverines 40-31, as senior Jeremy Williams (Memphis, Tenn.) snagged a game-high 10 boards.
Four East Carolina players scored in double figures, led by junior F Darrius Morrow (Atlanta, Ga.) with 21 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field, in an 81-53 victory over UNC Greensboro. The Pirates shot 26-of-48 from the floor (54.2 percent). Senior G Jontae Sherrod (Tarboro, N.C.) scored 17 points off the bench and classmate Jamar Abrams (Richmond, Va.) had 13. Senior G Brock Young (Raleigh, N.C.) added 10 points in his first start of the season and became the seventh player in Conference USA history to hand out 500 career assists.
Rice sophomore F Arsalan Kazemi (Esfahan, Iran) scored 13 points and hit two free throws with 55 seconds left to pull the Owls within one point (58-57), but No. 20 Texas defeated Rice, 62-59. Each of the Owls' three losses have been by a total of seven points. Rice led 23-20 at halftime Saturday and never let Texas get ahead by more than five points in the second half.
Marshall sophomore G DeAndre Kane (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored a career-high 25 points, but a second-half rally by Louisville gave the Cardinals an 80-66 win over the Thundering Herd. Marshall led the undefeated Cardinals, 34-33, at the half. Kane was 10-of-18 from the field, while senior Tirrell Baines (Laurens, S.C.) notched 13 points and junior Dago Pena (Punta Gorda, Fla.) recorded 12 points on four three-pointers.
Houston senior G Adam Brown (San Antonio, Texas) led four Cougars in double-digits with 14 points and four 3-pointers, but it would not be enough as host TCU took a 79-63 win against the Cougars. Freshman F Alandise Harris (Little Rock, Ark.) and sophomore F Kendrick Washington (Shreveport, La.) came off the bench to score 12 points apiece, while senior G Zamal Nixon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 10 points.
All five starters scored in double figures to lead UAB to a 70-65 overtime win against Arkansas in a game played Friday in Little Rock. Senior G B>Jamarr Sanders (Montgomery, Ala.) led the way with 19 points and sophomore F Ovie Soko (London, England) chipped in 17. Sophomore F Cameron Moore (San Antonio, Texas) registered his third double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Senior G Aaron Johnson (Chicago, Ill.), the conference's top playmaker this season (averaging 9.6 apg), assisted on eight baskets. Johnson and freshman G Robert Williams (Greenville, Miss.) each scored 10 points.
Tulsa freshman G Jordan Clarkson (San Antonio, Texas), the reigning C-USA Freshman of the Week, scored a career-high 20 points to lead Tulsa to a 65-53 win over Stanford in Friday's second round of the 76 Classic in Anaheim. Senior G Justin Hurtt (Raytown, Mo.) added 19 points and junior Steven Idlet (Prairie Grove, Ark.) registered his first double-double of the season (fifth of his career) with 10 points and 10 rebounds
