IRVING, Texas – Marshall junior DeAndre Kane and East Carolina freshman Marshall Guilmette have been named Conference USA Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively. Awards are chosen by a vote from a media panel representing the 12 member schools. Kane averaged 22.7 point and 5.7 rebounds during three contests for the Thundering Herd, including the fourth triple-double in Marshall history against Hofstra. Guilmette helped the Pirates to a pair of wins with his 9.5 points and seven rebound averages and posted a nine-point, nine-rebound effort against Methodist.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DEANDRE KANE, MARSHALL
Junior, G, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Kane averaged 22.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 9.0 assists over three games last weekend. Against Hofstra, Kane recorded the fourth triple-double in Marshall history with 33 points, a career-high 11 rebounds and 10 assists while playing in all 50 minutes of the 103-100 double-overtime loss to the Pride. He is the first Marshall player to record a triple-double with assists. For his efforts, he was named to the All-Hempstead Subregional Team as it came in the 2K Sports Classic benefitting Wounded Warrior Project. He also scored 16 points against University of District of Columbia and 19 points against South Dakota State. The award is the first Player of the Week honor for Kane’s career. He was a four-time Freshman of the Week selection.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MARSHALL GUILMETTE, EAST CAROLINA
Freshman, F, Kennesaw, Ga.
Guilmette averaged 9.5 points and seven rebounds in a pair of games last week. He just missed recording his first double-double with nine points and nine rebounds against Methodist. Guilmette tied for the team lead in assists with four against UNC Greensboro. He connected on 61.5 percent (8-13) of his field goal attempts. This is Guilmette’s first Freshman of the Week honor.
