SAN JOSE, Calif. - Fresh off their season-opening win, the University of Houston Men's Basketball team competes in its first road action of the season when it meets San Jose State at 9 p.m. (CST) // 7 p.m. (PST) inside The Event Center.

The Cougars claimed an 81-76 win against Florida A&M on Friday afternoon inside Hofheinz Pavilion. It was the program's eighth season-opening win in the last nine years. Houston will be looking for its second straight 2-0 start under third-year head coach James Dickey

Against the Rattlers, the Houston frontcourt of senior Leon Gibson and sophomore TaShawn Thomas combined for 31 points and 30 rebounds in the first meeting between the two teams. Gibson, the lone senior among the 2012-13 Cougars, scored a career-high 20 points and added 10 rebounds for the 10th double-double of his career.

Thomas posted 11 points and a career-high 20 rebounds against Florida A&M, topping his previous high of 16 boards against Texas State in December 2011. He also became the first Cougar to grab 20 rebounds in a game since Louis Truscott snared 21 boards at TCU on Feb. 1, 2003.

Making his first start in his collegiate debut, redshirt freshman guard Jherrod Stiggers scored 19 points, thanks to a game-high five 3-pointers. The Terrell, Texas, native was forced to miss the entire 2011-12 season with a knee injury before undergoing successful surgery and rehabilitation.
