Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced today that the C-USA Men?s Basketball Tournament would return to Memphis in 2006. The University of Memphis will serve as host of the tournament in a deal that was approved by the conference athletics directors during their annual spring meetings.

The 2006 Tournament, featuring all 12 C-USA men?s basketball programs, will be held Wednesday, March 8 through the championship game on Saturday, March 11. Ticket prices and hospitality packages will be announced in the fall. This year?s championship game will once again be broadcast on CBS and all other games will be televised on either ESPN or CSTV.

?We are very pleased to bring the tournament back to Memphis,? Banowsky said. ?The FedExForum is a great facility and is perfect for our fans given its proximity to the downtown retail area. Moreover, we appreciate the support and hospitality from the wonderful people in Memphis.?

Conference USA hosted the 2005 Kelly Tires Conference USA Tournament at the FedExForum in March. An average of more than 9,000 fans attended each session and the event generated an economic impact of approximately $8.1 million.

The 2005 C-USA final was among the most exciting in conference history as Louisville, a Final Four participant, edged out the hometown Memphis team, 75-74, with no time remaining.

This will be the fourth time that the city of Memphis has played host to the C-USA Men?s Basketball Tournament. In addition to last season, the event was played at The Pyramid in 1996 and 2000.
