IRVING, Texas - As the only freshman to earn all-conference honors, Memphis guard Tyreke Evans was named the 2009 Conference USA Freshman of the Year, while teammates Antonio Anderson and Wesley Witherspoon were named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year and Sixth Player of the Year, respectively, as voted by the conference's head coaches and select media. Houston junior guard Aubrey Coleman was named the Newcomer of the Year.

Evans is joined on the all-freshman team by Darrius Morrow of East Carolina, Damier Pitts of Marshall, Paul McCoy of SMU, A.J. Rompza of UCF and Arnett Moultrie of UTEP. Evans was named to the all-conference first-team yesterday, as well as picking up his ninth C-USA Rookie of the Week honor of the season. Evans has established himself nationally as the only freshman finalist for the prestigious Oscar Robertson Trophy. He leads the No. 3 Tigers in scoring (16.9 ppg.) and steals (65).

Coleman is playing his first season with his hometown Cougars. The junior guard transferred from Southwest Mississippi Community College and earned a spot on the 2009 All-Conference USA first-team. He has also been recognized throughout the season with two C-USA Player of the Week awards and five Rookie of the Week honors. Coleman is the only C-USA player to be ranked among the league's top four in scoring (19.8 ppg) and rebounding (8.1 rpg). He has added a team-best 12 double-doubles.

Anderson earned his third-straight nod on the C-USA All-Defensive Team, while also picking up the league's top defensive honor. The senior guard from Lynn, Mass., is a key member of the Tiger defense that ranks among the Top 15 nationally in four major defensive categories, including leading the country in field goal percentage defense.

Teammate Robert Dozier joins Anderson on the all-defensive team, along with Houston junior guard Kelvin Lewis, SMU senior center Bamba Fall, Tulsa junior center Jerome Jordan and UAB senior guard Paul Delaney III.

Memphis freshman Wesley Witherspoon was named the 2009 C-USA Sixth Man of the Year, averaging 4.4 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. He missed six games after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee.
