TaShawn Thomas

Feb. 18, 2013

Houston sophomore forward TaShawn Thomas and Tulsa forward D'Andre Wright were selected the C-USA Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively, by a media panel representing the 12 member schools. Thomas averaged a double-double with 27.5 points and 13 rebounds in a pair of games for the Cougars. Wright repeats his honor from a week ago as he scored 14 of his 21 points after regulation in a 101-92 triple-overtime victory against Houston.

Sophomore, F, Killeen, Texas

Thomas averaged a double-double with 27.5 points and 13.0 rebounds per game as the Cougars were 1-1 in conference play this week. He set career scoring highs in back-to-back games, including his first 30-point effort with 31 points in a triple-overtime contest at Tulsa Saturday. Thomas was an impressive 13-of-22 from the field against TU and scored 11 of the team's points during a 21-7 run in the final 2:10 of the first half and first 4:04 of the second half (6:14 clock total) to turn a 26-18 deficit into a 39-33 lead. He also scored the Cougars' final seven points in the first overtime. Thomas led all players with 15 rebounds for his team-leading 11th double-double of the season and 20th of his young career. Earlier in the week against UTEP, Thomas flirted with a triple-double, leading all players with 24 points, 11 rebounds and a career-best seven assists. He scored seven of the team's final nine points in the game as UH defeated the Miners, 79-61. In addition to being the team leader in rebounding (13.0), he also topped UH in assists (5.0), blocks (2.0) and tied for team lead in steals (2.0). This is his second career C-USA Player of the Week honor (Dec. 10, 2012), and he was a two-time Freshman of the Week selection last season.

Freshman, F, Lawton, Okla.

Wright scored 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting (72.7 percent) to lead Tulsa to a 101-92 triple-overtime win over Houston Saturday. Wright came up big in the extra periods, carrying the Golden Hurricane with 14 of the team's 31 overtime points. He made 5-of-6 field goals and all four free throw attempts, and added four of his seven rebounds in overtime. Wright was also credited with two blocked shots and a steal. This is his second consecutive C-USA Freshman of the Week award and his second of the season.
