East Carolina senior forward Maurice Kemp and Rice guard Max Guercy were selected the C-USA Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively, by a media panel representing the 12 member schools. Kemp scored a career-high 33 points to lead the Pirates in a victory over Rice Saturday on his birthday. Guercy repeats as Freshman of the Week after averaging 15 points and 4.5 assists against Rice and in a win over rival Houston.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MAURICE KEMP, EAST CAROLINA
Senior, F, Miami, Fla.

Kemp averaged 23 ppg and 8 rpg in helping the Pirates split a pair of games last week, falling to Memphis at home by seven (75-68) and winning at Rice by 16 (79-63). He scored a career-high 33 points against Rice for his second 30-point game of the season. His 33 points tied the ECU mark for most individual points in a C-USA game and he became the first ECU player in score 30 points twice in the same season since the 2007-08 campaign. The performance also moved him back atop the C-USA scoring chart with 17.9 ppg this season. Kemp was credited with a career-best six steals against Rice, matching the all-time ECU single-game high for most steals in a C-USA game. He also made a career-best 13 free throws against the Owls, the most by any C-USA player this season. Kemp played all 40 minutes against Memphis and didn't commit a turnover, while tying his career-high with four assists against the Tigers. This is his first career C-USA Player of the Week honor.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MAX GUERCY, RICE
Freshman, G, Arleta, Calif

Guercy scored a season-high 21 points to lead Rice to a 79-69 win over Houston Jan. 30. He also added four assists and four rebounds in the rivalry game. In the Feb. 2 game with East Carolina, he notched nine points with five assists and a pair of steals. For the week, Guercy averaged 15.0 points and 4.5 assists on the week with 55.0 percent shooting from the field and a 40 percent mark from downtown. He currently ranks seventh in the league in 3-point accuracy, eighth free throw percentage, 14th in 3-pointers per game and 15th in assists. This is the second week in a row Guercy has claimed C-USA Freshman of the Week honors and it is his third award of the season.
