ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Off to the strong start in Conference USA play, the UCF men's basketball team will host SMU and Hall of Fame head coach Larry Brown Saturday at 4 p.m. at the UCF Arena. The Knights are 13-5 overall and 3-1 in C-USA.
Calvin Newell and Isaiah Sykes helped UCF to a 78-67 win over Rice Wednesday as each junior scored 24 points. The guards are both averaging 15.3 points in league play for the Knights, who are 10-3 at home this season.
Under Brown, SMU (11-9, 1-4) has shown great improvement this year. The Mustangs began the campaign 5-0 and own wins over TCU and Utah.
"Coach Brown has done an excellent job," UCF head coach Donnie Jones said. "Watching the film, SMU is much improved and is a solid basketball team. Our team has learned from these first few conference games and our guys are eager to get back onto the court Saturday."
Saturday is Knights for Youth Day and prior to the contest, kids can enjoy bounce houses, games and meet Knightro in front of the arena. Youngsters can also welcome the Knights onto the court prior to tipoff. A special $8 ticket is available for children on gameday.
Following the game, fans can head next door to the Venue at UCF for the annual UCF Baseball Fan Fest. The free event starts at the conclusion of UCF-SMU and includes games for kids, autographs from the Knights and the chance to purchase 2013 season tickets. Meal tickets from B2 Café are available for $5.
The UCF Arena box office will be open prior to the game on Saturday. The Knights have six league home games remaining and the Conference USA Ticket Pack includes admission to each conference contest, including the March 2 showdown with Memphis. For more information on the ticket package, call (407) UCF-1000. UCF students are admitted free with a valid school ID.
The game will air on the UCF IMG Sports Network and its flagship station, 740 The Game. Pregame coverage with Marc Daniels and Taylor Young starts at 3:30 p.m. Live video and statistics will be available at UCFAthletics.com.
