Memphis and Southern Miss picked up key road wins Wednesday to improve to 3-0 in conference play. The Tigers won their seventh game in a row by defeating Rice, 77-51. Southern Miss rallied from a 19-point deficit in the first half to post their sixth straight win, defeating host SMU 74-70. East Carolina bettered its home court mark to 10-1 with an 89-78 victory over Houston. Senior Maurice Kemp led the Pirates with a career-high 30 points. Tulsa handed UTEP its first C-USA loss of the season by a final of 45-42.

  • Memphis 77, Rice 51: Memphis junior Joe Jackson (Memphis, Tenn.) registered his first career double-double to lead the Tigers to their seventh straight win with a 77-51 decision on the road at Rice. Jackson scored 13 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and was credited with four assists and three steals. The Tigers shot 68 percent from the field in the second half and are now 3-0 in conference play. Rice junior Austin Ramljak (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) scored a game-high 14 points for the Owls.
  • East Carolina 89, Houston 78: ECU senior Maurice Kemp (Miami, Fla.) scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Pirates to an 89-77 victory over Houston. Classmate Miguel Paul (Winter Haven, Fla.) added 16 points and eight assists. ECU improves to 10-1 at home. Freshman Danuel House led the Cougars with 22 points and sophomore TaShawn Thomas, making his 45th straight career start, scored 18.
  • Southern Miss 74, SMU 70: Southern Miss erased a 19-point first half deficit and then hung on down the stretch to defeat SMU, 74-70. The Golden Eagles have won their last six games. The 19-point comeback is the second biggest in Southern Miss history. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 14-4 overall, and 3-0 in Conference USA for the first time in program history. Senior Dwayne Davis (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Black and Gold with 17 points. Senior G Rashard McGill (Havana, Fla.) had 14 points and juniors Jerrold Brooks (Rochester, N.Y.) and Cedric Jenkins (LaPlace, La.) added 10 points apiece. Jonathan Mills grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. SMU sophomore Jalen Jones (Dallas, Texas) scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
  • Tulsa 45, UTEP 42: Tulsa forced UTEP to shoot 31 percent from the field to earn a 45-42 C-USA victory at the Donald W. Reynolds Center Wednesday. Senior F Kauri Black (Rialto, Calif.) led Tulsa with a season-high 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting. He also chipped in five rebounds to pace the Hurricane. Freshman James Woodard (Edmund, Okla.) added 10 points. The 87 combined points during the game were the fewest in the Reynolds Center history, and the 41 combined first-half points were the second fewest in Reynolds Center history. The previous low was 93 combined points, which came on Nov. 15, 2008, when Tulsa defeated Oral Roberts 50-43. UTEP junior John Bohannon came off the bench to lead the Miners with 11 points and nine rebounds.
