Jan. 11 Men's Basketball Notebook
Jan. 11, 2013
Conference USA men's basketball action resumes Saturday with six games scheduled throughout the day.
Houston travels to Southern Miss for a 2 p.m. CT tip. Both teams already have 12 wins on the season, including a victory in their respective C-USA opener Wednesday. Houston is riding a seven-game win streak, but has not played on the road since Dec. 4. Southern Miss has won its last 20 games at Reed Green Arena for the fifth-longest home court streak in the nation.
Wednesday's other matinee features Tulane at SMU, beginning at 2 p.m. Tulane just had its 10-game home court win streak at Devlin Fieldhouse snapped by UTEP in Wednesday's C-USA opener. The Green Wave boasts one of only two league players to average a double-double in junior Josh Davis, who is scoring 17.6 points per game and a league-best 10.2 rebounds per game. SMU has a balanced scoring attack as five different players have scored 20 or more points this season.
CSS will feature a doubleheader, beginning at 5:30 p.m. CT when Tulsa hosts Rice. The Golden Hurricane will be playing its first home C-USA game of the season. TU is 1-1 with a win at SMU and a loss at Marshall. Following that game, CSS will televise the Gene Bartow Classic from Birmingham as UAB hosts Memphis at 7:30 p.m. CT. Last year's game was a three-point decision with Memphis on top. The Tigers enter this fourth-annual classic on a five-game win streak, while UAB has won 11 in a row at Bartow Arena.
East Carolina hosts UCF at 7 p.m. Eastern, which is a later tip time than originally scheduled. UTEP hosts Marshall in the nightcap, beginning at 7 p.m. Mountain. Both the Miners and Thundering Herd won their conference openers Wednesday.
