Juniors Elijah Millsap of UAB and Derrick Caracter of UTEP were selected as the C-USA Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for games through Jan. 3 by a media panel representing each conference member. Millsap earned his second Player of the Week honor as he averaged 24.5 points and nine rebounds in a pair of road games. Caracter earned his first Rookie of the Week nod as he averaged a double-double for the week and received the inaugural Don Haskins Award in this year's Sun Bowl tournament.

ELIJAH MILLSAP, UAB

Millsap had a pair of outstanding performances in two road contests last week at ACC-foe Virginia on Wednesday and SEC rival Arkansas on Saturday. In the 73-72 win at Arkansas, Millsap collected a game-high 22 points to go along with seven rebounds and four steals. Despite not scoring the game-winning basket against the Razorbacks, Millsap still found a way to make an impact in the outcome. It was his screen to occupy a pair of defenders that freed teammate Howard Crawford for the game-winning dunk with one second left. In a hard-fought 73-64 loss against the Cavaliers, Millsap was nearly unstoppable, collecting 27 points on 13-of-22 shooting from the floor and 11 rebounds. His 13 field goals stood the fourth-most in a game in school history. Additionally, it marked his league-leading seventh double-double of the season. On the week, Millsap averaged 24.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. He also connected on 20-of-36 (.556) of his shots from the floor and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. This is his second career Player of the Week honor and he also was named the first C-USA Rookie of the Week for the 2009-10 season.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
DERRICK CARACTER, UTEP
Junior, Forward, Fanwood, N.J.
Caracter averaged 15.0 points and 10.3 rebounds in leading UTEP to a 2-1 week with wins over Norfolk State (93-56) and Air Force (58-47) in the Bank of the West Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational, and an 86-78 loss at No. 20 Texas Tech. He received the inaugural Don Haskins Award after averaging 12.0 points and 12.5 boards in the Sun Bowl tournament. Caracter followed that up by scoring 16 of his 21 points in the second half at Texas Tech. Caracter made 16-of-28 shots (.571) and 9-of-13 free throws (.692) for the week while also averaging 1.0 assists, 0.7 blocks and 0.7 steals in only 24.3 minutes per game. This is Caracter's first C-USA Rookie of the Week honor.
