ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Having won six of its last seven games, the UCF men's basketball team will start the new year with a big contest when it hosts cross-state rival USF Wednesday. Tipoff at the UCF Arena is 8 p.m.
Led by Keith Clanton, UCF (9-3) is coming off an impressive 66-63 win over Belmont Saturday in the UCF Holiday Tournament title game. Clanton totaled 26 points and grabbed 10 boards in the win over the Bruins, who own victories over Stanford and Middle Tennessee this season. Clanton is averaging 17.0 points and 9.6 boards this year and has moved to No. 2 on the UCF career rebounds list with 842.
UCF and the Bulls will be meeting for the second time this season as the Knights rolled to a 74-56 win in Tampa on Nov. 10 in the season opener for both squads. The Knights, who finished with a 45-26 edge on the glass, were led by Isaiah Sykes, who nearly had a triple-double with 26 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. UCF has posted three-straight wins over the Bulls.
The contest will be televised live nationally on CBS Sports Network. Dave Ryan will have the call and will be joined by former Virginia, Providence and Xavier head coach Pete Gillen.
USF (8-3) has won three-consecutive contests, including a victory over George Mason Saturday. Wednesday's game will offer UCF fans an early preview of BIG EAST play as the Knights will join the Bulls in the league next season.
On Wednesday, the UCF Arena box office will be open prior to the game. UCF students are admitted free to all home games with a valid school ID.
Conference USA play is right around the corner and the C-USA Ticket Package offers tickets to all eight home league games starting at the discounted price of just $64. To order, call (407) UCF-1000 or clicking here.
UCF-USF will air on the UCF IMG Sports Network and its flagship station, 740 The Game in Orlando. Marc Daniels will handle the play-by-play and former UCF guard Taylor Young will provide color commentary. Pregame coverage starts at 7:30 p.m. Live statistics will be available at UCFAthletics.com.
