MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP)--Aubrey Coleman had 24 points, Marcus Cousin added 16, and both grabbed 12 rebounds as Houston held on to defeat UTEP 89-85 in overtime in Thursday's quarterfinals of the Conference USA tournament.
Kelvin Lewis added 22 for the Cougars (21-10), the tournament's fifth seed. Zamal Nixon finished with 15, and Coleman also added seven assists.
With the victory, the Cougars advance to face top-seeded and No. 4 Memphis in the semifinals Friday. The Tigers struggled to defeat Tulane 51-41 in the other quarterfinal game Thursday evening.
Stefon Jackson scored 38 points to lead the fourth-seeded Miners (19-12) before fouling out with 7 seconds left. Randy Culpepper had 16, while Arnett Moultrie finished with 13 points and 17 rebounds.
Jackson's 10-footer on the baseline with 7.6 seconds remaining tied the game at 74 at the end of regulation.
