Cincinnati Reds Name Dan Langfield Minor League Pitcher of the Month
CINCINNATI - Cincinnati Reds pitcher Dan Langfield (Memphis 2010-12) was named the organization's Minor League Pitcher of the Month for August.
Langfield, drafted in the third round by the Reds in June, finished his Memphis career with 252 career strikeouts to rank third in program history. The Somerset, Mass., native had a Conference USA best 111 strikeouts on the season and he went 7-6 with a 2.79 ERA in 2012.
In six appearances and four starts at Billings in August, Langfield allowed just one earned run in 17.1 innings and struck out 30 batters, which tied for fourth among all Pioneer League pitchers for the month. He allowed 11 hits, issued just six walks and posted a 1-0 record and 0.52 ERA.
"I'm really excited," Langfield said. "I've been working hard this season to fix some things. Coach Tony (Fossas) has been helping out a lot, and when (Mark) Riggins came down he gave me a few pointers to work on. Everything is starting to feel a lot better mechanics-wise, and while I'm out on the mound - just being a lot more comfortable. It seems like it's falling into place right now, I just still have to keep working to get better."
In 15 appearances and five starts in 2012, Langfield has compiled a 3-0 record and 2.68 ERA with 54 strikeouts in 37.0 innings.
"Dan has done a great job for us this season," Billings Manager Pat Kelly said. "We used him in a tandem role and limited his innings because of how much he threw in college. Dan has four quality pitches and can be overpowering. He flourished in the month of August."
