HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
Southern Miss outfielder/left-handed pitcher Mason Robbins (Leakesville, Miss.) has been chosen to represent the West Division in next week's Cape Cod League All-Star game.
Robbins, the Conference USA Freshman of the Year as well as a Freshman All-American following the Eagles' 2012 campaign, will start in rightfield for the West as well as be a part of the Home Run Derby festivities.
The game is slated to take place Sat., July 28, at Whitehouse Field in Harwich, Mass. The Home Run Derby begins at 5 p.m., ET, while the 50th annual Cape Cod League All-Star game begins at 6 p.m., and will be telecast on Fox College Sports Atlantic.
As a member of the Bourne Braves, Robbins holds a .368 batting average in 25 games with seven doubles, a triple, five home runs and 12 RBI.
This past season for Southern Miss, Robbins posted a .330 average with 11 doubles, five triples, three homers and 38 RBI. He started the season with an 18-game hitting streak and led the squad in multiple-hit games with 22 and added 10 multi-RBI contests.
He also emerged as the squad's Sunday starter in league play and posted a 1-0 with a 4.01 ERA and struck out 17 batters in 33 2/3 innings.
Robbins is one of four Golden Eagles to earn all-star honors this summer from different leagues. Second baseman Isaac Rodriguez (Weston, Fla.) garnered a spot in the Texas Collegiate League game, while both right-handed pitcher Nick Johnson (Brandon, Miss.) and first baseman Ryan Ellis (Columbia, Miss.) represented the Hamptons Division in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League contest.
