C-USA Has 30 Players Selected in the 2012 MLB Draft

Conference USA had 30 players that were selected in the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft, which concluded on Wednesday afternoon. Rice RHP J.T. Chargois was the first C-USA player chosen, going to the Minnesota Twins in the second round with the 72nd overall choice. He was one of eight Owls to be selected, the most of any C-USA school.

East Carolina and UCF both produced six selections, while Houston had three. Eight of the nine Conference USA schools had at least one player selected.

2012 Conference USA Player of the Year Jacob Wilson of Memphis went to the St. Louis Cardinals in the 10th round, while C-USA Pitcher of the Year Matthew Reckling of Rice was taken by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 14th round.

One of the other notable selections was Southern Miss RHP Austin Davis, who went to the Boston Red Sox in the 31st round. Davis is an All-Conference USA quarterback that never played a baseball game as a Golden Eagle and signed with the St. Louis Rams following the NFL Draft.

The Los Angeles Dodgers the most players selected from Conference USA with five, while the Minnesota Twins and the San Diego Padres both chose three C-USA standouts. A total of 21 different MLB clubs drafted at least one player from Conference USA.
