2013 Conference USA Baseball All-Academic Team Announced

Two seniors, six juniors and three sophomores comprise the 2013 Conference USA Baseball All-Academic team as selected by the sports information contacts at each of the nine baseball schools. In order to be eligible for the recognition, student-athletes must hold a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, be of at least sophomore academic standing and be a starter of key reserve for their team.
Headlining the 2013 squad are four Memphis student-athletes, more than any school. Two of the Tiger honorees are repeat selections in junior infielder Ethan Gross and junior pitcher Sam Moll, both accounting majors. Gross has started all 56 games this season, moving his consecutive games started streak up to 149. He has 12 stolen bases to tie for the team lead. Gross has been named to the Dean's List five times as well as being named to the Tiger 3.0 Club. He has also been recognized twice for the Tiger Academic 30, a top 30 GPA among all student-athletes at Memphis. Gross posted a perfect 4.0 GPA during 2012 season. A C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll student, Gross received C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal all three years. Moll is top 10 in the NCAA rankings with 100 strikeouts and he sports an 8-3 record with a team-best 2.38 ERA. He was named to Dean's List and Tiger 3.0 Club in five of five semesters. Moll is a three-year honoree on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and a 2010-11 C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient.
Sophomore first baseman/designated hitter Tucker Tubbs and junior second baseman Zach Willis are the other two selections from Memphis. Tubbs is batting a team-high .330 with three homers and 29 RBI, while posting a .403 on-base percentage. Carrying a 3.90 GPA, Tubbs is a three-time member of the Dean's List and Tiger 3.0 Club. He posted a 4.00 GPA in the fall of 2011. Tubbs has earned the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal twice and was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll on two occasions. Willis has 12 extra-base hits on the season to go with seven steals. Hitting .300, he has scored 34 runs while driving in 22. Willis is a five-time Dean's List honoree as well as Tiger 3.0 Club member. He has earned the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal all three years by having a 3.75 GPA or higher.
Houston, Tulane and UAB each placed three student-athletes on the squad. The Cougars are represented by junior catcher Caleb Barker and junior pitcher Daniel Poncedeleon. Barker is a C-USA Academic Medal Recipient who holds highest GPA (3.86) on the team among those with at least a sophomore standing. He was named to the Astros Foundation College Classic All-Tournament team and had a 10-game hitting streak during midseason. Barker has started 50 of the 54 games at catcher, is tied for the team lead with 43 RBI, which is tied for second in C-USA. He is hitting .258 with 51 hits, 26 runs scored, eight doubles and a team-leading three home runs. Poncedeleon is a member of the Commissioner's Honor Roll. He is tied for the team-lead with 14 starts and was honored as C-USA Pitcher of the Week on April 1. He has struck out 61 batters, is tied for fourth in C-USA with seven wins while tying for first in league game-only victories with five.
Tulane senior outfielder Brandon Boudreaux is a repeat selection to the All-Academic team and he is joined by fellow Green Wave senior Bowen Woodson. Boudreaux was nominated as a finalist for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award and was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. He owns 47 hits on the campaign and is second on the team with 33 runs scored. Boudreaux has a team-best 33 walks, has hit nine doubles and has seven stolen seven bases. Woodson is also a member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. The versatile performer has started games at three different positions for Tulane this season and has 40 hits and 20 RBI. He tied for the third-longest hitting streak on Tulane this season at seven games.
UAB's two selections include junior outfielder/designated hitter Ryan Prinzing and senior infielder Tyler Mims. Prinzing is a 2013 Capital One All-Academic District 4 Team selection and a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree. He has also been named to the Dean's List three times. Prinzing tops the team in batting (.337), home runs (3), on-base percentage (.446) and runs scored (37), while placing second on the Blazers in hits (64), doubles (10), total bases (87) and slugging percentage (.458). Mims is a three-time C-USA Academic Medal winner and Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient. He also earned the UAB Presidential Honor four times. Mims is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Student-Athlete Honor Society, Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and a Business Honors Program member. The regular first baseman for the Blazers, Mims has six doubles, 16 RBI and is third in C-USA in hit by pitches with 13. He is fielding .987 on the season, committing only six errors in 454 total chances.
East Carolina junior utility player Drew Reynolds is a repeat selection to the All-Academic team. He is a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll member (2011-13), a 2011 C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal Winner and a six-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll recipient. Reynolds is ECU's primary designated hitter and is batting a team-best .313 (62-for-198) with 12 doubles, 21 RBI and 28 runs scored. On the mound he owns a 3-2 record with a 2.79 ERA and a C-USA best 13 saves, which also ranks among the top 20 nationally.
Rounding out the 2013 All-Academic team are Southern Miss senior Austin Roussel and UCF junior Parker Webster. Roussel is a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient and won the C-USA Academic Medal in 2011. He earned Dean's List honors three times and was a member of the Athletic Director's honor roll twice. Roussel is hitting .337 this season (29-for-86) with three doubles, a home run and 14 RBI. He reached base in eight straight plate appearances at one point earlier this season. In his first year on campus, was named to the Conference USA Honor Roll and he has also been named to the Athletic Director Honor Roll for the fall and spring semesters. Webster earned a spot on the spring semester President's Honor Roll at UCF with a perfect 4.0 GPA. He was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week on March 25 after a big week that included nine hits and seven RBI in five games. He has 10 doubles and 28 RBI in 46 games played.
