March 25 Baseball Players of the Week
March 25, 2013
Marshall junior RHP Aaron Blair threw six no-hit innings with 11 strikeouts against in-state rival West Virginia to earn the Conference USA Pitcher of the week award. The Hitter of the Week honor went to UCF junior OF Parker Webster, who had four multiple-hit games and seven RBI for the Knights last week.
Webster was the lone Knight to record a hit in all five of UCF's games last week, including four two-hit performances (one at Jacksonville and all three games of the series sweep of UAB in Birmingham). The Sandy, Utah, native continually found gaps in the defense with four doubles in five games. At UAB, Webster struck for a pair of two-run, two-out doubles in the fifth innings of both Friday and Saturday's contests. His second RBI of the day Sunday gave the Knights the victory in 10 innings to ensure the sweep. On the week, Webster drove in seven runs and scored three times.
In his only start of the week against West Virginia last Wednesday, Blair threw a no-hitter until a high pitch count caused him to be lifted at the end of the sixth inning. His victory came against the Thundering Herd's in-state rival in the first meeting between the two schools in the past five years as Marshall posted an 8-0 shutout. Blair struck out 11, which was two shy of his career high and only two WVU hitters were able to get the ball out of the infield against the Las Vegas native.
