ORLANDO, Florida (UCFAthletics.com) – Conference USA announced its 2013 preseason baseball awards Wednesday afternoon. The Knights were pegged to finish fourth in C-USA by the league’s nine coaches while seniors Ryan Breen and Chris Taladay were voted to the preseason all-conference team.
C-USA regular-season champion Rice was predicted to finish atop the league while receiving seven first-place votes. Southern Miss and East Carolina were slotted second and third while Tulane rounded out the top five.
The preseason awards for Breen and Taladay marks the second-straight year the Knights have had multiple recipients on the C-USA preseason list. The three-year lineup fixtures, and former freshman All-Americans, have combined to start 285 contests in a UCF uniform.
In 2012, Breen started all 57 games he appeared in, serving as the Knights' primary catcher. He batted .264 with 24 RBI, eight doubles, three triples and a homer. Taladay started all 62 contests for the Knights while manning third base, catching and playing in left field. He led the team with 78 hits during his junior campaign while batting .298. Taladay ranked second on the team with 49 RBI and hit five homers, eight doubles and a triple.
The Knights are in full preparation for the 2013 season with team practices well underway. The squad is gearing up for Opening Knights against Siena on Feb. 15. Admission to the game is free to the public. To secure your tickets for all of the exciting action at the UCF baseball complex, call (407) 823-1000 or visit UCFAthletics.com.
