UTEP's RISPER KIMAIYO and ELKANA ROTICH have been selected Female and Male Cross Country Athletes of the Week, respectively, to open the season. The Miners competed in the annual Lobo Invitational where the duo paced the team. Kimaiyo won the 5K race for the third-consecutive year with a winning time of 17:16 while Rotich was third overall crossing in 25:19.
C-USA Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Junior / Iten, Kenya
Miner All-American Kimaiyo claimed her third-consecutive Lobo Invitational title by clocking a 5K time of 17:16. The junior holds the meet record with a time of 17:00 set a year ago. Among 56 runners, UTEP had four finishers in the top 20. This is her eighth career Athlete of the Week honor.
C-USA Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Junior / Eldoret, Kenya
Rotich was the top finisher for the UTEP men's squad at the Lobo Invitational. The junior posted a time of 25:19 to place third overall in the 8K race. The Miners had three top 10 finishers among the 93 runners.This is his third career Athlete of the Week honor.
