Indoor Track and Field Teams Open 2013 at the Crimson Tide Indoor Opener

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The Southern Miss indoor track and field teams opened the 2013 season at the Crimson Tide Indoor Opener and recorded 12 top eight finishes. Justin Sims led the Golden Eagles after running a time of 6.75 in the preliminary round of the 60 meters, then, placed third in the finals with a time of 6.76. Sims finished sixth in the 200 meters. Randy McCoy took third in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.15. He ran 8.30 in the preliminary round. Courtland Wells came in fifth with a time of 8.47. Rashun Prince ran time of 8.88 in section B 60-meters hurdles as Bryan Earl posted a time of 9.00 in finishing fifth and sixth, respectively. Richard Collingwood placed second in the shot with a throw of 17.49m (57-04.75). Suyi Georgewill posted a second-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 18.78m (61-07.50). Christopher Monroe registered a mark of 13.87m (45-06.25) in the triple jump to finish eight. Wells also finished in a tie for sixth in the high jump with a mark of 2.05m (6-06.75). On the women's side, Stephanie Ledgerwood ran a time of 9:53.22 in the 3,000 meters and placed fourth overall. Krista Moylan recorded a time of 10:05.18 and just finished out of the top eight at ninth. Southern Miss will compete in the Auburn Invitational on Jan. 19.
