A total of 14 student-athletes were named to the 2011 Conference USA All-Academic Cross Country Teams, as selected by the league's sports information directors for the sport. The all-academic team consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a key member on their team. Eight seniors, five juniors and one sophomore make up the two honorary lists.
UTEP's Justice Chirchir and Silje Fjortoft of SMU have been named Conference USA Cross Country Athletes of the Year, respectively, as voted upon by the league's head coaches and released by the conference office Tuesday.
Conference USA wrapped up a successful 2011 cross country season Monday at the NCAA Division I Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. Tulsa's men placed 25th out of a field of 31 and four female runners clocked Top 50 times on LaVern Gibson Championship Course at Wabash Valley Family Sports Center.
Conference USA will be sending one team and seven individual qualifiers to the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships. Indiana State will host the Championships, Monday, Nov. 21, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind.
