IRVING, Texas - Beck Wade of Rice has been selected a Top 30 honoree for the NCAA Woman of the Year award. The award recognizes not only the athletics achievements of outstanding young women, but also their academic achievements, community service and leadership.

The top 30 women, out of nearly 430 nominees, are composed of 10 honorees from each NCAA division and span various NCAA sports. In September, three finalists will be chosen from each division to form nine finalists for the award. The 2012 Woman of Year will be announced and the top 30 women will be honored during an Oct. 14 ceremony in Indianapolis.

Wade received her bachelor's degree from Rice in history, psychology and sociology, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a 4.02 GPA and Phi Beta Kappa.

During her collegiate career as a member of both the cross country and track and field teams, the Dallas native earned 11 varsity letters. She received All-America honors for cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track. Wade concluded her career at Rice as the school record holder in the indoor 5000m, outdoor 5000m and outdoor 10,000m.

In addition to earning both C-USA and NCAA postgraduate scholarships, Wade also received a prestigious Watson Fellowship this spring. She will spend her Watson Fellowship year traveling to the United Kingdom, Ethiopia, Japan, New Zealand and Finland exploring the running culture of each country.
