Rice senior distance runner Matt Carey has been named to Capital One Academic All-America® men's track & field/cross country first team, earning the fifth, first-team honor for the men's track and field program in the last four years.

The senior from San Antonio who graduated in May with a 4.00 GPA while majoring in economics and being inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, joins Philip Adam (2009-10-11) and John Berens (2010) in being named to the first team.

He has been accepted into Rice's Jesse H. Jones School of Business as well as the Baylor College of Medicine.
