Track and Field in Lubbock This Weekend

EL PASO - The UTEP track and field teams will travel to Lubbock, Texas to compete in the Texas Tech Open at Terry and Linda Fuller Track this Saturday. The Miners will be taking on the No. 3 Red Raiders, No. 15 Sooners, No. 4 Lady Sooners and No. 13 Lady Raiders.

 

Kicking off the open for the men is Dimitrios Fylladitakis and Justin Kepple with the hammer throw at 12 p.m. Fylladitakis will be looking to top last weeks performance where he recorded a throw of 67.97m to rank third nationally.

 

Highlighting the field events on Saturday will be All-American Endurance Abinuwa. She will have to once again fend off Texas Tech’s, Taylor Evans in the 200m. Currently, Abinuwa ranks fourth in the nation in the 200m with a time of 23.35.

 

Conference USA Athlete of the week, Elkana Rotich will be competing in the men’s 1500m. The sophomore clocked the nation’s second-best time of 3:44.41 for his performance at the UTEP Springtime in the 1500m.


 

 

 

Also competing for the Miners this week is All-American Risper Kimaiyo participating in the 1500m event. Senior Suji Adeniyan will race in the 100m, 200m and the 4X100 relay. Adeniyan holds first place in Conference-USA for the 100m race clocking a time of 10:69.

 

The Texas Tech Open starts with field events at 11 a.m. and running events at 3:00 p.m.
