IRVING, Texas - Conference USA has named Emmanuel Tugumisirize of Middle Tennessee and UTEP's Mark Jackson as the Male C-USA Co-Athletes of the Week for Indoor Track & Field. The Miners were also represented by senior sprinter Janice Jackson, who shared the Female Co-Athlete of the Week honor with Tulane junior pole vaulter Merritt Van Meter.

CO-MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
MARK JACKSON, UTEP
Senior / Triple Jump / Taylor, Texas
Competing in the triple jump for the first time this season, Jackson posted a personal best of 16.21m at the Cherry & Silver Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The senior's mark garnered him the eighth-best jump in school history, and also currently ranks him first in Conference USA and No. 3 in the nation. This is Jackson's first Indoor Athlete of the Week honor.
EMMANUEL TUGUMISIRIZE, MIDDLE TENNESSEE
Senior / 400 / Kampula, Uganda
Tugumisirize placed first in the 400-meter at the Vanderbilt Indoor Invitational. He set a career-best time of 46.05, and broke a 13-year-old school record. The previous mark of 46.36 was set in 2001 by Godfrey Herring. His time of 46.05 ranks third in the nation and is the fastest in C-USA this season. This is the first Indoor Athlete of the Week honor for Tugumisirize as the Blue Raiders are competing in their first season in C-USA.

Jackson captured her third crown of the season at the New Mexico Cherry & Silver Invitational. The senior won the 60m dash with a time of 8.11 to beat second place by .19 seconds. She also posted the fastest time in the prelims with an 8.22 finish. Her time is the fastest in the program history, and currently ranks first in Conference USA and fourth in the nation. Jackson rounded out the meet by posting 24.53 in the 200m dash. This is Jackson's second consecutive and career Indoor Athlete of the Week honor.
Junior / Pole Vault / Metairie, La.
Van Meter launched 4.27 meters for a new personal best and a new indoor school record in the pole vault Saturday at the New Mexico Cherry & Silver Invitational. The Metairie, La., native topped her own school record by four one-hundredths of a meter. She finished second in the event, and the jump shattered her previous season-high of 4.05 meters (13-3.5). Van Meter still owns the top pole vault mark in Conference USA. Prior to this weekend, there have only been three other student-athletes in the NCAA with better pole vault marks than Van Meter's mark from Saturday. This is Van Meter's first career Indoor Athlete of the Week honor.
