Conference USA has named Manuel Ziegler of Memphis and UCF's Octavious Freeman its first Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for the 2013 season. Ziegler won the triple jump with the nation's fourth-best mark of 15.48m (50-9.5), while Freeman clocked a pair of NCAA Top 10 times during opening weekend action. She recorded a prelim time of 7.20 in the 60m, which ranks second in the nation. Freeman followed that performance with the NCAA's eighth-best mark of 23.79 in the 200m. She won the 60m finals (7.24) and finished second in the 200m. Both athletes competed at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington.

Ziegler took first place in the triple jump with a career-best leap of 15.48m (50-9.5) at the Kentucky Invitational. Ziegler's mark currently ranks No. 4 in NCAA Division I competition. This was the second consecutive meet the sophomore won the triple jump. This is Ziegler's first Indoor Athlete of the Week honor.

Freeman posted two performances that rank among the NCAA's top 10 in the 60m and 200m on UCF's opening weekend. She dominated the 60 meters with the second-best time in the nation of 7.20 in the prelims. Along with four other teammates in the eight-competitor final, Freeman ran away with first place with a time of 7.24. In the 200 meters, she helped UCF sweep the top five finishes of the event with a second-place time of 23.79, which ranks eighth in the nation. This is Freeman's first Indoor Athlete of the Week honor for the season and fourth of her career.
