Track and Field Sends Seven Individuals and Two Relays to NCAA Championships

HOUSTON- The University of Houston track and field program had seven individuals and two relay teams qualify for the NCAA Championship this weekend at the NCAA West Preliminary hosted by the University of Texas.

The women's quartet of Grecia Bolton, Tai'shea Reese, Alicia Perkins and Kiersten Brewer finished in 43.97 to take fourth place in the 4z100m relay. The time was a season best for the Cougars and the fifth-fastest in school history. The trip to the NCAA Championships will be a third-straight feat for Bolton and second-consecutive time for Reese in the relay event.

Bolton will represent Houston in the most events at the NCAA Championships as the senior also secured advancement in the 100m and 200m. The Katy, Texas, native placed second in the 100m with her time of 11.22, the third fastest in program history. In the 200m, Bolton finished 13th overall at 23.65.

Bolton makes her second-straight appearance at the NCAA Championships in the 100m and the second time (2009) in the 200m.

Reese, a senior from Kligore, Texas, gives UH their second student-athletes in the 200m as she finished ninth in the 200m with her personal-best time of 23.48.

Errol Nolan heads to the NCAA Championships in the 400m for the third straight year. The junior from Rosenberg, Texas, took third place in the event this weekend with his season-best time of 45.92.


 

 

Nolan teamed with Xavier Boyd, Marquis Frazier and James Lang to take 11th (3:07.88) in the 4x100m relay and also secure advancement to the NCAA Championships.

For the second straight year, two Cougars return will represent at the NCAA Championships as Thomas Lang and John Horton qualified. Lang jumped 15.75m/51-8.25 to land in ninth place as the freshman Horton took 15th (15.47m/50-9.25). The trip for the NCAA Championships will be a first for the underclassmen.

DeMeeka Jones qualified in the 100m hurdles with a personal best of 13.09. The senior finished seventh in the prelims.
