BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –The UAB track and field team completed its final tune-up at the Samford Invite on Saturday in preparation for the Conference USA Championships next weekend hosted by Tulane in New Orleans.
The Blazers continue to improve on the track as seven Blazers turned in personal-record performances.
The foursome of Kelli Smith, Angel Watson, Thelyssa Katchen and Alexis Bates ran the 4x100-meter relay in a season-best 45.53, placing the team fifth on UAB’s all-time list.
Watson ran a personal-record 57.04 in the 400 meters finishing in third place behind teammate Katchen who placed second (56.40).
Bates finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.88.
All three Blazers that competed in the 200 meters logged personal-record times. Katchen ran to a time of 24.83, Akira McSwain turned in a time of 24.96 and White crossed the line in 25.38.
Freshman Shelby Barker triple jumped to a personal-best 11.82m (38-09.50).
Six Blazers competed in the 1,500 meters with Sarah Hudak leading the pack in second place (4:26.65). Lucy Taylor placed fourth with a PR 4:30.10, followed by Kristina Vaughn in fifth (4:32.76), Lauren Fayen in sixth (4:33.41), Clara Cid in seventh (PR – 4:36.95) and Shannon Simpson in ninth (5:15.23).
